We’re delighted to announce the next edition of Sprinkles Idol Festival, an event brought to you by Vicky, Millie and Sam of Ice Qream, celebrating the vibrant convergence of Japanese culture and performance art.
This festival showcases singing and dancing artists inspired by Japanese idols, odorites and anime idols, providing an exceptional platform for performing talents and their fervent fans also known as wotas.
Sprinkles Idol Festival’s mission is to strengthen the bonds within the community of performers and fans, providing a space where creativity and passion can flourish. We pride ourselves on creating a stimulating environment that allows both idols and odorites to shine in the spotlight, and spectators to experience unforgettable moments. While highlighting the importance and impact of Japanese music in our lives, we aim to create precious memories for all participants. At the same time, we’re committed to promoting the subtleties of Japanese idol culture and the richness of j-pop idol music, while entertaining our audience.
Join us in celebrating this extraordinary event, where the energy and enthusiasm of the performances mingle with the richness of Japanese culture. Whether you’re a long-time enthusiast or a new follower, the Sprinkles Idol Festival is the perfect opportunity to discover and enjoy exceptional talent while being part of a dynamic and engaged community.
We look forward to seeing you and sharing this unforgettable experience!
Interested in performing at our festival?
The following information is for you!
Schedule
Firstly, the festival will be held on Saturday: 12h-15h (Provisional times, this could change slightly), this also includes a rehearsal. Please make sure you’re available on Saturday at least until 15h (you will be needed for a total of 3 hours). If you want, you can also take part in a Meet&Greet after the festival to sell your merch or take photos with the spectators!
We operate in the manner of Japanese taibans: each band or performer will have an assigned time slot and will perform their songs in that block. You can apply for a performance of 5 to 20 minutes, as you wish, with short MCs (talking to the crowd) if you like. Please note, however, that the 20-minute time slots will be limited to a small number of artists. In the interests of a dynamic and original festival, and depending on the number of applications, we may be able to grant you a smaller time slot than that requested.
Accepted performances
You must perform songs of Japanese origin, related to the culture of idols and odorites. For example, since our mission is to spread j-pop culture, a song in Japanese by a k-pop group would not be eligible. If you’re a kaigai idol with original songs, you’re of course welcome to perform them. This is the only exception for performing non-Japanese songs, since original kaigai idol songs are an extension of Japanese idol culture. If you’re not sure whether a song is eligible, don’t hesitate to contact us by private message.
You can perform solo or in a group, in cosplay or not. Our festival favors performances combining singing and dancing, as this is closest to Japanese idol culture, but it’s also possible to apply only dancing or singing (as long as it’s an idol-style performance!). We’ll have 6 microphones (or more on request) available for groups.
Selection criteria
Acts performing at the festival will be chosen according to the following selection criteria: originality, memorization, synchronization and rhythmic and/or vocal accuracy. Please note, however, that if we run out of performance space, we will base our selection on originality, and this may affect proposals that are too repetitive. If you’re applying for a certain franchise and unfortunately we’ve reached the quota for it, we’ll let you know. If you would like to receive suggestions outside this franchise, or apply for another group/franchise, you can let us know at the same time to increase your chances. Don’t forget that there are many different idol franchises in anime, dynamic dances in odorite culture and so many great songs to discover from the “real” (3D/human) Japanese idols! If you’re interested in getting suggestions of groups to discover in your favorite dance or music style, once again, don’t hesitate to contact us.
We also invite you, when you fill in the form, to tick if you’d be willing to learn, as a bonus, an “ imposed ” song from any of the choices we’d give you. Since the festival’s mission is to educate about the diversity of idol music, we’d like to make sure we have examples of several different styles or companies/franchises. This means that if you apply to perform two songs of your choice, by checking the box, you agree to perform a third song that you choose from our picks. We think this is a fun challenge, and will be very constructive in educating the audience, who may be seeing idol-flavored performances for the first time!
How to apply?
Now all that’s left is to tell you what you need to apply for the festival:
- Group name or stage name
- Names and ages of participants (if performers under 16 are applying, we will require a consent form to be completed by parents or legal guardians)
- Desired duration of your performance
- How many microphones you’ll need if singing
- Group or artist photo (may be updated before the festival if you have another photoshoot by then!)
- Logo or image to projected during your performance
- Songs you’d like to perform at the festival and their length
- A performance video with all band members taking part: it doesn’t have to be the song(s) you perform at the festival, but if you apply to sing and dance, you’ll be asked to make a song and dance video performance. The performance for this video must last at least 2 minutes. It can be filmed in a basement, in a gym, it can be an old performance, as long as we can see you well. We’re asking for unedited video (so no video with multiple cuts, or mastered vocals.) We want to see a “live” performance.
You have until January 26th, 2025 to send us your auditions. Selected participants will be contacted on January 30th..
Don’t hesitate to write to us at [email protected] if you have any questions!
We look forward to hearing from you! Good luck to you all!
